You’re My Meant To Be (Kismet by A. E. Woodward)

I have heard others say that you know an author is good when you can a feel a kaleidoscope of emotions while reading the author’s work. If that is standard by which we measure, than A.E. Woodward is a genius. I recently read a different book that she co-authored with Erika Ashby, called CaughtCaughtCaught by Erika Ashby and A. E. Woodward

was my choice to read by A.E. Woodward. The tone of the book was mournful and moving from the very beginning yet left me tear stained but hopeful when finished.

Kismet is a poignant, gut wrenching, bittersweet novel that is all about second chances and recovering from tragic circumstances. I spent two evenings sitting deeply engrossed in Katie and Parker’s world. It begins with senseless tragedy that has befallen Katie’s husband and children, which she feels is a direct result of wrong choices made in her past. She believes that the fault and blame lay at her feet and concludes that she did not deserve for her life to be spared.

I know what I did, and I know that this is my punishment for all the lies I told-all the truths that went unspoken”

Once Katie is back in her hometown after six years of being absent, she encounters Parker, who was the reason that she left. Parker believes that this is his second chance and wants to begin again. Is their love worth pursuing? Will past secrets destroy them? Can two damaged people heal one another?

You are mine and I am yours, I always have been and I always will be”

I do believe that this is the first love story that I have read in which I have fallen for two male characters. About halfway through the book, Michael’s letters had me crying and even for a moment wishing that the book had started out differently. I quickly recovered and couldn’t wait to read more about Parker and Katie’s love story.

The book was beautifully written and the characters were realistically flawed. The relationship between Katie, her brother Tommy and Parker was unbreakable through even the worst situations. If I had known how heartbreaking the ending would have been I might not have chosen to read Kismet. Then I would have missed out on a truly amazing story and that would have been tragic. I highly recommend this as a must read and hope that everyone will embrace the message in this book and “make it count”
