Review! Roommates (Soulmates #1) by Hazel Kelly

Roommates by Hazel Kelly

Ethan Fitzell has been avoiding his stepsister Jenny since their parents got married, but when she shows up at his apartment uninvited, he’s forced to face the fact that her absence has only made his heart grow fonder…

I always liked him.

But when our parents got married, things got confused. As if being a teenager isn’t confusing enough.

All I knew was that the feelings I had for him weren’t okay.

I’ll never forget the anxiety I felt the night I ran into him at a party that had gotten out of control.

I saw him standing around with the popular kids as soon as I walked in the door.

And he saw me, too. He always saw me. It was talking to me that he avoided.

I watched his buddy spin an empty wine bottle on the butcher block while my friend Brandi rummaged in her oversized purse for the two bottles of hard lemonade her older sister gave us.

When the spinning bottle stopped, I realized everyone was staring at me.

“Looks like you’ve gotta kiss Jen,” some jock said to Ethan.

I felt the color drain from my face, taking the moisture in my mouth with it as a suffocating panic grew in my chest. I was going to be found out.

Ethan laughed it off. “Yeah, that’s not happening. She’s my sister.”

“Not really, though,” his buddy insisted.

The eruption of laughter and jeering sounds made the dim kitchen feel like a jungle full of predators, and I was sure my cheeks were going to burst into flames.

“Don’t be stupid,” Ethan said, tilting a can of beer over his mouth.

When his friend spun the bottle again, Ethan glanced back at me one more time and wiped the back of his hand across his lips.

I’ve been wondering what it would be like to kiss him ever since.

**Author’s note: This is a full-length, standalone romance novel with no cliffhanger and no cheating. It is intended for a mature audience and has an ending that will leave you smiling so hard it hurts.

It has been quite some time since I have read a hot, forbidden stepbrother romance, so I decided after reading the blurb that I was ready and more than willing to step into Jenny and Ethan’s world and try out a “new to me” author. It wasn’t long into Roommates and Hazel Kelly had me in flames from all the repressed sexual tension and had my heart twisted from the myriad of emotions flowing between this unlikely couple! Ethan and Jenny had me burning the midnight oil waiting to see how these two young and loveable souls would find their way to be together.

Jenny Layne has always been madly in love with Ethan, even before he became her stepbrother. She has always seem to think that he hates her and wants nothing to do with her. So to go to New York as an inspiring actress and try out her luck at both acting and being Ethan’s roommate is a brave if not completely stupid feat. Once she gets there, all the emotions that she has buried for him come rushing back and now she must do everything in her power to ignore those feelings for Ethan and grab a starring role on Broadway, which will be the hardest…she doesn’t know. Jenny burrowed deep inside my heart with her naive ideals and her love filled gaze and lust filled haze that seems to surround her when Ethan is anywhere near. She reminds me of the little sister that I never had and I couldn’t wait to see her get the love that she deserves.

“When we woke up in the morning, I wasn’t going to be his girlfriend or his lover or his dream come true. I’d just be his dirty little secret.”

Ethan Fitzell is a guy who reformed his life from an anger filled teenager to a young man who has found his purpose since being out on his own after suffering through a tough childhood with a hardened Dad and being shipped off to military school. Ethan surprised me in so many ways and had my heart from the moment he first scowled at Jenny trying to act like she didn’t affect him. I just knew that he was going to be putty in Jenny’s hands once she got past his hard facade and found that boy that fell in love with her. And what reader could resist wanting to coddle this bit of man candy who needs all the love he can get?

“What I wanted most was to know what it felt like to be inside her. Deep. Like she’s always been in me.”

Hazel Kelly delivers a scorching first round of forbidden love in the Soulmates series. I highly recommend Roommate for a romance that gives you a good punch of lust, a heavy dose of love, and lots and lots of feels! I look forward to reading many more books by Hazel starting with the next one in this series full of love that starts in the most unlikely of places. I can’t wait to see what panty twisting, heart melting moves Hazel Kelly has to offer in My Best Friend’s Brother. All I can say is bring on the heat and the emotions and I will keep coming back for more!

“I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop if I start.” “What? Dancing?” “No.” He trailed his fingertips up the side of my arm. “Touching you.”
