Official Review! Hooking Up (Shacking Up #2) by Helena Hunting

Hooking Up by Helena Hunting

Amalie Whitfield is the picture of a blushing bride during her wedding reception–but for all the wrong reasons. Instead of proclaiming his undying love, her husband can be heard, by Amalie and their guests, getting off with someone else. She has every reason to freak out, and in a moment of insanity, she throws herself at the first hot-blooded male she sees. But he’s not interested in becoming her revenge screw.

Mortified and desperate to escape the post-wedding drama, Amalie decides to go on her honeymoon alone, only to find the man who rejected her also heading to the same tiny island for work. But this time he isn’t holding back. She should know better than to sleep with someone she knows, but she can’t seem to resist him.
They might agree that what happens on the island should stay on the island, but neither one can deny that their attraction is more than just physical.

Filled with hilariously scandalous situations and enough sexual chemistry to power an airplane from New York City to the South Pacific, Hooking Up is the next standalone, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy from Helena Hunting, the New York Times bestselling author of the Pucked series and Shacking Up.

After reading Helena Hunting’s short story Getting Down in the Eye Candy anthology, I knew that I had to find out what happens between the sexually charged “could be” couple in Hooking Up. Helena teased her readers mercilessly with just a little back and forth between Amie and Lex in her short story and had us salivating for more! I was ready to see these two finally get up close and personal and experience every moment of the infamous “Anarchy Amie” coming out and to play!

Amalie is a woman who has traveled down the wrong path of love so many times that she doesn’t know where to turn. So when her wedding day is torn to shambles she figures time alone to recoup on a tropical island is just what she needs. What she doesn’t plan on is someone mending her broken heart and showing her that she is worthy of love, passion, and that lowering her inhibitions and letting her persona “Anarchy Amie” run free is anything but bad. In fact, I have never seen a more entertaining heroine who needs to dig deep inside herself and throw caution to the wind! There is nothing better in a story than to watch a broken woman build herself back up again and become reacquainted with the strong, fierce woman that she always has been.

I fell head over heels for Lex, the moment he was spotted wearing his gladiator type costume in Going Down I just knew I had to get to know this smooth talking, sexy hero. Helena gives us just that in Hooking Up and has us falling so hard someone might need to call the paramedics! Lex is mouth watering, heart melting, and yummy in every way possible. What I loved most about him is that he is there for Amie to rediscover her inner beauty and power as a woman and he will stop at nothing to make that happen for her. Get ready for a dirty talking, heart stopping character when you meet Lex!

Helena Hunting delivers a story of growth and love found when least expected. I highly recommend Hooking Up for a light hearted yet soul deep read that will keep you laughing, slightly overheated, and wishing for Lex and Amie’s story to never end! So now I must go back and start at the beginning and read Shacking Up so I can experience all the sexiness that Helena Hunting has created with Ruby and Bane. All I can say is “Be still my heart” because I know that it is going to be one hell of a smoldering hot and emotional ride!
