Official Review! Gentleman Nine by Penelope Ward

Gentleman Nine by Penelope Ward

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new, sexy standalone novel.

Growing up, the three of us were friends.
He was the nerd.
I was the playboy.
She was the beauty.

Deep down, I only ever wanted her. I kept it inside because Rory and I made a pact that our friend, Amber, was off-limits.

He lied.

I went off to college, and he got the girl.
Amber never knew how I felt.
They were together for years—before he broke her heart.

Through it all and across the miles, she and I casually stayed in touch. When my job sent me to Boston for a three-month contract position, Amber let me stay in her spare room.

Still reeling from her breakup, she’d sworn off men. One night, I opened her computer to find the shock of my life. She’d hesitantly contacted a male escort company. Afraid to date and get her heart broken again, she was looking for sex with no strings. Every emotion imaginable ran through me: protectiveness, jealousy—curiosity. Amber had chosen Gentleman Number Nine and sent him a message. She opened up to him, confessing, among other things, her physical attraction to her friend—me. But she considered me off-limits—and she thought I was a manwhore. (Ironic, considering the circumstances.)

Eventually, she set up a date to meet Gentleman Nine at a hotel. When she showed up several nights later to meet him, she was stunned to see me standing there—with an offer I hoped she wouldn’t refuse.

Even though I automatically one click all of Penelope Ward’s books, I read the blurb was beyond curious and absolutely giddy with excitement when this beauty released and showed up on my kindle! Penelope always has a way of sucking her reader’s in with an intriguing blurb and then throwing curve ball after curve ball at us throughout the story which leaves us with our hearts twisted and begging for more of her characters, of her story lines…just more! It wasn’t long and I was so deeply engrossed in Channing, Amber, and Rory’s world and turning pages as fast as I could to see how the angst would play out and the sexual tension would boil over. If you are looking for a romance with a bit of a love triangle and best friend romance then Penelope has the read for you in Gentleman Nine!

Amber Walton had my sympathy flowing freely with her tale of a broken heart by her best friend that was her boyfriend for the last ten years. The more I was involved in her life, the more I wanted her to have someone who would rock her world and treat her right and what can I say, I wanted that someone to be Channing not some male escort she barely knows. I wanted this heroine to have her shattered heart mended, realize the beautiful, sexy, and kind woman that she was, and I wanted her to find all that in the arms of Channing.

In Channing Lord’s mind he has always been the man who pined for his best friend Amber but took a step back because he thought that Rory was the better man for her. That is until he isn’t and Channing finds himself living with Amber and constantly having to hide his feelings for her. I couldn’t help but fall hard for this hero that always has Amber’s best interest at heart, plus you know the bulging muscles, handsome face, and dirty talk didn’t hurt his case with me either. He had me swooning for him every time he talked to Amber, add in the sexy times, his cocky confidence and sexual prowess and I was just a puddle on the floor!

Penelope Ward delivers a love story that will evoke a myriad of emotions and have you wrapped up in the angst and passion of all three of these amazing characters. I highly recommend Gentleman Nine for a romance that is sure to check all of your list and push all of your buttons. I am always waiting impatiently for another book by Penelope Ward so that I can be wrapped up in and in love with her three dimensional characters and experiencing emotional whiplash from all of the twist and turns that I never saw coming.
