You know the
universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but
only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting run over by a semi,
and running into the one who got away.

Why do they say it like that anyway?

Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my
best friend and left me.

The day after I proposed.

We were eighteen.

I wanted forever.

She didn’t.

It’s been ten years.

I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my
now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe,
is to gain closure with the one woman I can’t forget.

So I do it.

I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on
the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally
happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girl’s window, and getting
threatened at gunpoint by her father.

To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant

I just hope I survive the message.

And then, I hope I survive her—again.

I received a copy and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.

Having never read a book by Rachel Van Dyken but hearing readers everywhere singing her praises, I knew once I read the blurb to The Consequence of Rejection that I just had to start here. Once beginning the book since I had never read any of the other Consequence books it took me a few chapters to catch my footing and learn the characters, since this is the fourth book in the series, but once that happened there was nothing to stop me from laughing at all the antics of all of Rachel’s amazing characters. It didn’t take long and I was wrapped up completely in Jason and Maddy’s angst filled walk down memory lane filled with stolen kisses, pool parties, sneaking in two story windows and did I mention fireworks? Both in and out of the bedroom.

Jason Cora has never recovered from his heartache from ten years ago. So to see the face that caused all that heartache is not something that he wishes to do but destiny is a funny thing isn’t it? Jason won me over with all of his clumsy mishaps and his quacky friend Max that seems to be there to make his life a living hell. He is unlike any cop I have ever met with his ongoing accidents that make you shake your head with laughter and his group of friends that most of the time cause more harm than good. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t instantly like about this geriatric loving hero who would have done anything for his Mandy aka “Candy Lips” before she shattered his heart. If there is ever a man who deserves love or even just a little bit of normal, it is Jason!

Maddy Summers is someone who let her fear of the future overrun her good senses ten years ago and has lived to regret it ever since. When circumstances have her back in her hometown and across the street from the guy she rejected all those years ago, life suddenly becomes crazy, steamy, and extremely interesting for this heroine. My heart went out to Maddy with her myriad of emotions and regrets that draw you in and make you want to comfort her. I love a heroine her learns from her mistakes and Maddy shows that she is capable of that and so much more.

Rachel Van Dyken completely obliterated my heart with all of these laughter inducing, emotion filled characters from her Consequence series. I cannot wait to start at the beginning and experience as much of them as possible. I highly recommend The Consequence of Rejection for a romance that has everything from laughter, friendship, regrets, and tears. Rachel keeps us on our toes emotionally and doesn’t let us go a page without experiencing as many emotions as possible. I look forward to indulging in many more of her fictional journeys.

Full breasts spilled over into a small black bikini that
left nothing to the imagination, it barely covered nipple for that matter, and
the bottoms? Well she had to keep adjusting them lets just say high school
bathing suits ten years later look small.
In the best way possible.
Head held high she walked right by me to Max, grabbed a
shot, took it, then sucked the lime he held out in front of her.
I growled.
Max winked at me. “Something wrong, man?”
I reached for the non existent gun at my side, which just
made him grin harder as he kept handing out alcohol to parents of
Because thats the type of party it was.
Almost everyone started talking about their kids,
retirement, stock portfolios, vacation time, and babies.
It was almost too depressing for words.
I had all those things but what I’d always wanted. A family.
She shared a sideway’s glance with me.
I reached for her, but she pulled away and ran full speed
towards the pool and did a giant canon ball.
People cheered.
While I watched as wet cold water ran down her curvy body,
my gaze was so tranfixed on her erect nipples I’m surprised nobody pulled me
aside about my current situation of arousal.
Cold water. Fast.
I chased after her, jumped in.
And felt the warm buzz of alcohol fill my veins just as I
popped up and saw Max follow, balls first, in my face.
I ducked just in time so I didn’t get a fist full of
The guy only laughed once we both popped up.
I swam towards Maddy, and tugged her against me. “Stop
“I’m not.” Her breath came out raspy. “I’m just…reliving old
times, isn’t that what you wanted? So we could have closure?”
Why did it feel like she was turning the tables on me.
“Yeah,” I said slowly, “But—“
Her kiss was swift.
Fast, and oh so very punishing as I gaped into her mouth and
pinned her against he side of the pool.
Music filled the air out of nowhere from somewhere outside,
it pounded into my ears the way I wanted to pound into her.
I grinned against her mouth as she wrapped her legs around
my waist.
And then Reid cast a shadow over us and started pouring
vodka over our heads.
Maddy tilted her head back and opened her mouth while I
leaned in and licked it off her chin.
People cheered.
“Guys!” Someone yelled. “Keep it down, someones going to
call the cops!”
“Cops?” Max laughed loudly. “I am the law, bitches!” The
music blared. “Plus, we already got our cop here.” He pointed while I took
another shot.
People cheered.
And then Maddy squeezed her thighs.
Yeah the cops were coming alright.
