stills gives us the HEA that we live for while still leaving us waiting to read the rest of Emily and O’Connell’s story. R. J. Prescott did a great job of setting the scene with a chapter devoted to O’Connell’s point of view, and from then on to the end we witness Emily’s perspective. The last and final words come from O’Connell’s again to wrap it up quite nicely.

“Time was the only thing that would bring back the pieces of my soul, but I had the feeling that O’Connell might turn out to be the glue that held them all together.”

Cormac O’Connell is a sexy, dangerous fighter that falls hard for Emily after the first time of seeing her outside of a cafe. He feels that he is unworthy of her kind and caring nature and strives to be a better person for her. He is loyal, determined, possessive, protective and has the most colorful language. He has been through hell and back with his mom and needs a little sunshine in his life. He knows that Emily is going to be the light in his world, he just has to prove it to her. He will do anything… be anything… to make her a part of his life, including evolving into a better person.

“I’ve been hard for hours, watching you walk around in that dress. I’ve had all night to plan how many times I’m going to take you, and in what position.”

Emily, affectionately known as “Sunshine” has been living in fear of stepdad and all she wants to do is blend into the background, make a new life for herself, and stay in hiding. She is smart, beautiful, scared, lonely, and in need of love of all kinds. Little does she know that from the moment that she agrees to be “friends” with Con that there would be no fading into the background. She wants to be more for Con but is not sure that she can be everything that he needs and fit into his world.

“I didn’t understand why I was so desperate to be the focus of this man’s attention, when I’d tried for so long to stay in people’s peripheral vision.”

In contrast to the darkness of Emily and Con’s past, there is so much warmth between both Emily’s college friends and Con’s boxing friends. They have become each others family and it is so heartwarming to read and it leaves you with the feeling of being wrapped in their affection as well. There are so many memorable funny moments with unforgettable characters that I will continue to carry around in my heart long after I have read the last page. I cannot wait to visit not only Emily and O’Connell again, but also Kieran, Nikki, Danny and the rest of the boxers that have become family to me as well.
